Jennifer and Michelle’s stories – support from our Discharge Buddy Service

Being discharged from a mental health inpatient care setting can be a daunting prospect. Jennifer and Michelle share their experiences of the support they received in this period from our Discharge Buddy Service.

Being discharged from a mental health inpatient care setting can be a daunting and scary prospect as you seek to re-adjust to life independently after a period of mental health challenges.

That’s why our Discharge Buddy Service offers short-term support, over four to six weeks, to individuals after discharge from crisis services in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. This structured social, emotional and practical care focuses on an individual’s strengths to help recovery, improve wellbeing and prevent future mental health crises.

This support has been a reassuring, helping hand in adjusting back to life outside of mental health inpatient care for Jennifer and Michelle, who share their experiences below, as well as the many others who have accessed the service.
