Spring has certainly sprung and we are thrilled to open up applications for the Spring round of the Good Life Fund.
The fund offers grants of up to £500 to local people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough to help set up groups that connect people and enhance wellbeing, such as book clubs, craft classes, support groups or activities that encourage people to learn new skills.
Heather, as part of a group from Hilton village, was one of our first successful applicants and pitched to set up a community garden with fruit trees and vegetable patches. They hope to encourage people to work together, outside in the fresh air, to grow produce which can be sold or donated to others. Having a sense of purpose, being with others and being able to cultivate plants has proven benefits to mental health and physical wellbeing.
Heather commented, “A group of us became aware that several people in the village were experiencing mental health issues, loneliness and depression. In order to address some of these issues we wanted to organise a purposeful activity which everyone could get involved with, regardless of age, ability or experience. Already people are coming forward, wanting to be part of the project and to be permanent members of the group. It has created a real feel good factor in the village.”
