Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and South Lincolnshire (CPSL) Mind is looking forward to welcoming mums to its Connecting Muslim Mums support group at a new venue – The Gladstone Park Family Hub in Peterborough.
CPSL Mind attended the official opening of the new Gladstone Park Family Hub, which saw Children’s Services Councillor Katy Cole give an opening speech and Andrew Pakes MP and local councillors cut the ribbon.
CPSL Mind’s perinatal team will be delivering its next Connecting Muslim Mums group in April from the centre.
The Connecting Muslim Mums support group runs for six-weeks and is for expecting or new Mums focusing on the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’ – keep learning, connect, take notice, give and be active. It has been specifically designed and tailored to Muslim Mums, incorporating faith-based material and culturally sensitive issues. Muslim and Non-Muslim multilingual staff and volunteers will support during the group.
This group provides women with the opportunity to develop meaningful connections with other Mums and may especially benefit you if you feel lonely, isolated or have experienced mental health problems or low self-esteem.
Everyone is welcome to bring their child along to each session – CPSL Mind has fully DBS checked volunteers who are more than happy to lend a hand in giving Mums a break so that they can focus on their own health.
Jen Anker, Perinatal Services Manager at CPSL Mind, said, “It’s great to see the fifth Family Hub in the city officially open, helping ensure that support for families is more accessible to all. It was wonderful to see so many local partners coming together to support the space, and I know there is already a fantastic programme being delivered from the centre.”

“We’re also looking forward to running our next Connecting Muslim Mums group from the hub. The rooms have been beautifully transformed into welcoming and calming environments, helping families feel comfortable and supported when engaging with services.”

Saman Farooq, a Perinatal Project Worker at CPSL Mind, said, “One Mum had recently given birth to her first child, and she reached out because she didn’t have any support. She really struggled with sleepless nights, and it caused her anxiety, which turned into postnatal depression. When she saw our leaflet at a GP surgery, she reached out to us. She realised that by attending the course, she made fantastic connections with other Mums. I see all the Mums we have helped at community events and it’s just wonderful to see them grow in confidence.”
In the last financial year, CPSL Mind’s perinatal services have received 197 new referrals and engaged with 207 individuals. The charity would like to reassure Mums that they are not alone.
The charity is available to support you through every step of your perinatal journey. Whether you need a space to connect with others, a course to rebuild confidence, or simply a friendly face who understands.
The Connecting Muslim Mums group runs between 16th April – 21st May.
