Victim & Witness Support Facilitator

Based in Peterborough office and required to work from within the Support Hub in Peterborough, in addition to working from home.

22.5 hours per week

Salary Scale Point 15 £16,267.80 per annum    (£27,113.00 p.a. FTE)

In partnership with the Victim & Witness Hub and funded by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, the Victim and Witness Support Service is a small team delivering trauma informed telephone-based support to victims and witnesses whose mental health and wellbeing has been impacted by a crime which will include:

  • Guided self-help tools
  • ‘Warm handovers’ to relevant community based services
  • Personalised wellbeing plans
  • Resilience building strategies

The role will be subject to satisfactory DBS and Police checks 

The successful post holder will:

  • Provide 1:1 telephone-based support to individuals whose mental health and wellbeing has been impacted by a crime
  • Listen with empathy and without judgement
  • Offer guided self-help support using trauma informed strategies to increase resilience
  • Develop personalised wellbeing plans
  • Provide information, signposting and warm handovers to appropriate support services
  • Mitigate suicide and self-harm risk through open conversations and personalised safety plans
  • Use strengths-based approaches to ensure person-centred support
  • Provide focused, time limited support
  • Keep up to date notes/records in relation to support provided and be responsible for own administrative tasks

  • Collect data and contribute towards contract reporting
  • Proactively work alongside colleagues within the wider Victim and Witness Hub
  • Support Victim & Witness Hub colleagues to respond helpfully to individuals with mental heath issues
  • Continuously demonstrate CPSL Mind values throughout the role
  • Attend relevant debriefs, supervisions and team meetings
  • Undertake all other duties commensurate with the role description

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

  • Ability to support individuals on a one-to-one basis using strengths-based, person-centred approaches
  • Demonstrable experience of supporting individuals experiencing a wide range of mental health needs
  • Strong communication skills with demonstrable active listening skills
  • Knowledge and experience of managing professional boundaries
  • Self-aware, with ability to reflect on own practice and actively manage own wellbeing
  • Effective time management skills
  • A flexible collaborative approach

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience of supporting individuals to explore the use of evidence-based self-help skills
  • Experience of delivering trauma-informed support
  • Understanding of risk management including safety planning and escalation where required
  • Good IT skills and experience of using a database to accurately record sensitive data
