Crisis Card App: Important Update

Three years ago, the launch of SUN Network’s Crisis Card App for both Android and iPhone represented a ground-breaking advance in the use of technology to support individuals through mental health crisis. Since that time close to 500 people have downloaded the App in order to pro-actively plan for the support they need should they experience a crisis. Alongside this, hundreds of other people have downloaded a printed version of the card to keep in their wallet/purse, should they need help from others at any time.

However, App technology has moved on at an incredible pace and, following a recent review of the Crisis Card App, significant development needs have been identified which we cannot ignore. It would require a very substantial financial investment to meet these needs and, with so much other work currently underway around crisis care — such as the new Sanctuary service and STOP Suicide Campaign — we are having to make some important decisions about the best use of our time and fundraising initiatives.

This is where we need your help…

If you have used the Crisis Card App, we would like to know the following:

  • Has the App helped you and, if so, how?
  • Approximately how often have you referred to the App?
  • How often have you used the App in a crisis situation?
  • If you feel OK to share, please can you give specific examples.

Please email your responses to by end of day Friday, 29 July 2016. We will then review this data and report on it by end of August 2016.

In the short term, given the pressing development needs, the App will be no longer be available to download and will not have any further updates. In light of this, we are having 2000 Crisis Cards professionally printed as soon as possible. These will be made available from Mind in Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Fenland Mind, Richmond Fellowship and Lifecraft. There is also another app we would recommend called #StayAlive which has been developed by Grassroots
