Back in January the New Cambridge Singers organised their bi-annual Cambridge Big Sing at Great St Mary’s Cambridge with 400 plus singers rehearsing and performing some beautiful well-loved choral music.
The charity event has become known on the Cambridge musical calendar and this year raised funds for the local mental health Charity CPSL Mind (Cambridge, Peterborough and South Lincolnshire Mind).
Organiser Gillian Perkins comments “It’s certainly one of the largest totals we have ever raised and beat our own expectations. We have supported many local charities through our Big Sings, and we were so thrilled that CPSL Mind helped us raise so much. Thanks to the charity’s help with marketing we generated increased media interest too”.
“Mental Health is high in the public consciousness right now. One in four people will experience some sort of mental struggle and it is likely we all know someone who would benefit from support or is seeking help’, said Zoe Doherty from CPSL Mind. “It’s thanks to fantastic fundraising like this that we can achieve some of the extra help we are able to offer”.
The charity partnership has proved positive and enhanced the many messages that singing as an activity is good for our well-being in general.
